Quality Education Fund Thematic Networks - Schools (QTN-S)

This programme is the continuation of the Professional Development Schools Scheme financed by the Education Development Fund. Schools with exemplary practices in learning and teaching and a good sharing culture will form a network with participating schools, focusing mainly on specific pedagogical themes to promote inter-school collaboration and professional exchange through various exchange activities.

  • Promoting Reading across Curriculum (RaC) through e-Reading (non-fiction) in English Lessons (2023/24)

To incorporate the use of information technology (IT) into the school English Language curriculum and to use e-learning effectively in the teaching of reading skills; To introduce e-learning pedagogies and e-tools; To arouse students’ interest in reading non-fiction.

To induce students’ learning motivation and construct their mathematical concepts and logical thinking, through the use of e-learning platforms and tools that pair up with diversified modes of assessments, by creating scenarios that connect to important and difficult teaching points when applying diversified strategies for developing self-directed learning in students; To lead teachers to design key questions and construct effective Mathematics lessons so as to provoke students’ thinking, guide them to observe, explore and actively exchange ideas, as well as develop their mathematical thinking and learning ability; To use e-learning platforms with peer sharing and comment functions to record the learning process, encourage peers to appreciate each other’s learning achievements, and facilitate students to communicate, collaborate, co-construct and share knowledge with their peers. Through encouraging messages, teachers and students recognise the efforts of students in the learning process, improve students’ information literacy through practice, and cultivate students’ positive values and attitudes of respecting others and learning to appreciate; To promote the development of school Mathematics curriculum and strengthen its vertical and lateral coherence through unit planning and effective course work design (pre-learning tasks, classwork and extended learning tasks).

To assist participating schools in promoting STEAM education in General Studies so as to facilitate the connection among the Science, Technology, Arts and Mathematics Education Key Learning Areas (KLAs); To assist teachers in designing hands-on and brains-on STEAM education activities so as to enhance students’ ability in integrating and applying knowledge and skills in different KLAs; To assist participating schools in promoting HOTS (High Order Thinking Skills) in General Studies; To assist participating schools to cultivate positive values of students through STEAM education.

In 2022/23 school year, QEF sponsored 15 secondary schools and primary schools to implement QTN-S, which covered different subjects and themes. The QTN-S has provided support to the participating primary and secondary schools and enhanced professional exchanges as well as professional capacity building to facilitate the continuous development of schools. 8 QTN-S dissemination seminars would be organized in the form of online live webinars / on-site seminars from 16 June to 7 July 2023.

To provide professional training and support to teachers and laboratory technicians of participating schools on bio-technology and STEM education; To support teachers in developing bio-technology and STEM education learning activities for school-based junior secondary science curriculum so as to enhance students’ knowledge and experimental skills in bio-technology as well as their creativity and problem solving skills; To establish an interactive learning community to promote interschool interaction and professional exchange on professional technological innovation; To promote bio-technology and STEM education in the participating schools, the secondary school sector and in Hong Kong.
