Quality Education Fund Thematic Networks - Schools (QTN-S)

This programme is the continuation of the Professional Development Schools Scheme financed by the Education Development Fund. Schools with exemplary practices in learning and teaching and a good sharing culture will form a network with participating schools, focusing mainly on specific pedagogical themes to promote inter-school collaboration and professional exchange through various exchange activities.

  • Promotion of STEM Education through the School-based Science and Bio-technology Curricula (2020/21)

To provide professional training and support to teachers and laboratory technicians of all Participating Schools on Bio-technology and STEM education; To develop Bio-technology and STEM education learning activities for school-based Junior Secondary Science curriculum to enhance students’ knowledge and experimental skills in Bio-technology as well as their creativity and problem solving skills; To establish an interactive learning community to promote cross-school interaction and academic exchange on professional technological innovation; To strengthen the promotion of Bio-technology and STEM education in the Participating Schools, as well as further promote Bio-technology and STEM education to other schools to enhance Bio-technology and STEM education in Hong Kong.

To support Participating Schools in establishing STEM learning platforms, such as Aquaponics, propagation of corals, Makers and Artificial Intelligence Lab, so as to facilitate the sustainable development of STEM education in Participating Schools; To broaden the academic and technological vision of the STEM education teams through exchanges among the Participating Schools and their collaboration with universities and related industries; To share the refined designs of learning activities, strategies and action plans of the existing curriculum with more STEM education elements so as to let all students have exposure to STEM education; To establish the STEM education professional learning community by sharing the rich experience and resources of the Networking Co-ordinating School in the promotion of STEM education, and to promote innovative technology education in the Participating Schools through on-site support.

To implement multi-dimensional pedagogical and assessment strategies in core subjects with reference to the Learning Progression Framework to record students’ performance, so as to promote the effectiveness of learning and teaching; To enhance the learning effectiveness of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) by refining the school-based curriculum and assessment accommodations that cater for their learning needs; To enrich the pedagogical strategies and skills of teachers to teach SEN students; To help Participating Schools develop and promote school-based and multiple assessment strategies so as to cater for learner diversity.
