Quality Education Fund Thematic Networks (QTNs)

The QEF Thematic Network was initiated in 2006 to disseminate good practices derived from QEF projects and promote professional sharing through networking different schools and educational bodies.   • QEF Thematic Network on Implementing 'Computational Thinking' and 'STEM Education' in KS2 by Two Approaches (2019/20)

The project is intended to promote "computational thinking" and "STEM education" through mathematics learning activities or interdisciplinary activities in Key Stage Two. Teachers who participate in the project can apply the concept of computing thinking and improve the teaching ability of information technology. In addition, through the project to build a professional community, promote a cross-school professional development culture.

The QTN on “Developing Students’ Positive Attitudes and Value” was established in 2014/15 school year to develop and promote evidence-based practices for developing students’ positive attitudes and values in both primary and secondary schools. With the continued support of QEF in the 2019/2020 school year, a three-stage framework is adopted to further promote and extend wellness education to also kindergartens. Ultimately, the project aims to transform all participating schools into wellbeing-first schools, where the holistic welling of students will be a top priority.

The QEF Thematic Network (QTN) on Support for Diverse Learning Needs (Reading and Writing) in Junior Secondary Schools was established in the 2013/14 school year. The project aims to establish a school network on supporting the diverse learning needs (reading and writing) of junior secondary students. Through different trainings such as workshops and lesson observations, teachers’ professionalism is enhanced. Teachers can use different strategies on the learning and teaching of reading and writing.

The QEF Thematic Network (QTN) on Developing Students’ Positive Attitudes and Values was established in the 2014/15 school year to develop and promote evidence-based practices for developing students’ positive attitudes and values in both primary and secondary schools. Universal and selective programmes about biological, psychological and social development of students will be developed, and trainings and seminars will also be provided for teachers and parents of participating schools.

The QEF Thematic Network (QTN) on Developing School-based Chinese Language Curriculum (Primary) was established in the 2016/17 school year to establish an inter-school learning circle with the aim of supporting teachers to develop school-based Chinese Language curriculum. Professional development activities include analysing students’ needs, organising teaching materials, designing teaching strategies and learning tasks, participating in workshops, lesson demonstrations and observation, etc.
