Quality Education Fund Thematic Networks (QTNs)

The QEF Thematic Network was initiated in 2006 to disseminate good practices derived from QEF projects and promote professional sharing through networking different schools and educational bodies.   • QEF Thematic Network on “Implementing Computational Thinking and STEM Education in KS1 by Two Approaches” (2020/21)

This QTN aims at promoting computational thinking and STEM education through Mathematics learning activities and interdisciplinary activities in KS1. Teachers who participate in the QTN will apply the concept of computational thinking and improve their capability of using information technology in teaching. This fosters the development of a learning community among teachers and professional exchange across schools.

The QEF Thematic Network (QTN) on Parent Education: Healthy Start Home Visit Program was established in the 2014/15 school year with the aim at developing teachers and parents the skills and knowledge of how to inculcate into their children healthy life styles in respect of physical, cognitive and psychosocial aspects. Under the QTN, trained Parent Assistants would conduct home visits to provide support to the underprivileged families.

The QTN aims at promoting STEM education through equipping participating school teachers with the knowledge and skills of designing and producing robots so that learning activities related to robotics could be designed to enhance students’ interest in STEM. During the project period, inter-school sharing and discussion sessions would be conducted on a regular basis to enhance teachers' professional development. The learning community so established under the QTN would be maintained after the project for further capacity building. Teachers of the participating schools would be arranged to use the high-end Laser Cutter purchased under the QTN for producing their teaching aids for further development of school-based curriculum.

The QTN aims at enhancing teachers’ professional capacity in integrating knowledge, skill, attitude and action into the learning and teaching of Liberal Studies (LS). In addition to developing students’ knowledge and skills, exploratory activities and practical applications would be arranged for them for internalising the learnt values and enhancing sustainable development.
